VIRGIN TRIP TO: BATAM
Normally people went to Batam for only 2D1N, but me and love went for 3D2N. It's our first time there, so we really have no idea what to do. But we did some research before going. Booked 'BatamFast' ferry for only SGD$47 for 2-way trip, but need to check-in 1 hour before. Love's aunt & uncle came over to fetch me to harbourfront and had lunch first before checking in. The whole ferry ride was shaky as it's raining and the wave was big. Anyway, Batam is 1hour earlier than SG time. The ferry ride was 45mins-1hr. The moment we reached, we went to the 'BatamFast' counter to book the ferry time back to SG. When to 'MegaMall' hypermart to buy some drinks then walked over to 'Harris Hotel Batam Center'. It's a new hotel and very easily spotted as the hotel is just beside the ferry terminal. The service was awesome, the staff served us drinks and offered cookies when we're checking in. Highest level is 9th storey, I got 7th storey with sea-view room. The bad experience is: the hotel is new so some renovation is going on, so when I'm in the room, there're lots of banging and knocking sound. If you're going to this hotel, REQUEST not to have corner rooms.

After we put down our bags, we walked over to 'MegaMall' to have our lunch. FYI, 'MegaMall' is located opposite the ferry terminal which is also very near to Harris Hotel. Walked around but can't decide what to eat, so we decided to settle down at A&W! Really love the curly fries but not a fan of root beer. The 2-piece chicken is really nice, better than KFC! Wanted to catch a movie, but there's not much movie showing. Both of us got nothing to do, so we planned to go hypermart buy some tibits, snacks and drinks go back hotel and slack our day away. Love wanted to try their KFC, so we bought 4 piece of chicken (2 original 2 crispy) @ only $6+! In the end, our 1st day ended like this...

For the 2nd day, we decided to take a cab to 'Nagoya Hill' shopping center to take a look as love read from forum that this shopping center is very popular and much bigger than 'MegaMall'. Majority of the cab does not have a meter or on the meter, therefore they will quote a price. Trip down to Nagoya will be around RP$50k-$60k which is around SGD$6-8. Had Ayam Penyet at the famous stall call 'Ayam Penyet RIA' if you happened to visit Batam, remember to go there and eat. It cost around SGD$2-3 per person. Walked around the mall, hoping to find some gifts to buy back for my friends but there's nothing much to buy. Bought 5 pairs of ear rings @ RP$20K (SGD$3), we went to the arcade to play then settle down at 'Coffee Town' for a drink and relax. We found a small shop for massage and it's really cheap and value for money. The massage shop is call (ISABELLA), strongly recommend this shop as they provide transport service back to hotel, no matter where you stay! The massage cost RP$150K (SGD$13-$15) for full body.

We request to be sent back to 'MegaMall' so that we can have our dinner. We can't decide what to eat as it's the last day before we go back to SG the next day, we randomly picked a restaurant that served Jakarta food. love ordered 4 dishes, crazy enough, and we managed to finish everything. The whole meal costed us RP$130K (SGD$12-$14). Quite worth it as the food was really yummy! We went back to hypermart again, to buy snacks back to SG for friends and family. Both of us are really puzzled by people (assumed to be Singporean) buy 1 carton of 'indomie' and were thinking if it's really so nice. I did try before 'indomie' mee goreng and it's better than normal SG maggie. So, we went to buy 1 carton of mee goreng as well! 40packet inside, and each of us get 20packs. Bought RP$303K (SGD$40+) worth of snacks and went back to hotel to pack my bags. Totally regret buying so many maggie, have a hard time packing it inside our bag! hahah!

In conclusion, I think that Batam is really a great place for those who wanted to go for a short getaway just to relax. Don't expect too much in Batam as there're really nothing much to do or buy.
